Well my dears, the time has come for the library doors to close up for the summer. And that means one thing - class book return competition! As always, the first class to return all of their books will receive some sort of prize!
Check back every day for an updated number and a new and silly book return meme!

Hooooraaaayyy it's time for the annual public library Summer Reading Club! As always, there is a new theme and a new British Columbian artist who has designed it. Check out this little video to see this year's theme and artist: A little birdie told me that there will be some super amazing prizes this year! As usual, you can sign up and pick up the booklet at whichever library you want. This year, you can also sign up online HERE. Summer Reading Club kicks off on June 17th - very soon! This used to be one of my favourite things to do when I was a kid. I wish someone would still give me stickers every time I finished a book!
And last... the Lynn Valley Library is doing something extra amazing this year. Every Tuesday morning in the summer they will be hosting a virtual author visit (stay tuned for the schedule). One author that I think many of you might want to check out is Gale Galligan (Raina Telgemeier's assistant and the author/illustrator that took over The BabySitter's Club series!). You know I will be there! You know I will also be here: As promised, I have drawn some winners from last week's library challenge. I will post their favourite character entries below. I know I said one primary and one intermediate but since I'm a big ol' softie, I drew two primaries and one intermediate winner. And...drumroll please... the winners are...
Oh, and if anyone has an entry that they forgot to send, send it over and I will add it to the gallery. Perhaps I will continue being a big ol' softie and more prizes will ensue...
I am super excited about this week's library challenge! Your task, should you choose to accept it, is as follows:
I couldn't pass up doing this challenge myself. It was verrrrrryyyyy hard to choose a favourite. I wonder if any of you will have that problem too? I decided on Hermione Granger because she is confident, smart, a loyal friend, and (of course!) loves the library! Thanks to the lovelies that sent me a spine poem! I am hoping that seeing these will inspire more of you to send me your spine poetry. Get creative and send your poor old librarian a poem! Here is one very clever poem, I received without a photo: Smile, Santa Claus is Coming to Town. I bet you can figure out what both of those books are! That was from Sofia in Div. 6. Nice one Sofia! Below, are some other clever poems I have received (click on the photos to see who the author is): Now it's your turn - send me some more! Mr. Bookman and I are hungry for poems.
This is going to be fun! A few of you have done this in the library with me before. But if not, here's how it works:
This challenge is a three parter (because Mother Nature deserves our love and recognition). It doesn't realllllly have anything to do with the library. Shh! I won't tell if you won't!
Part 1: Check out this totally awesome EAGLE CAM from a nest in Delta. I was lucky enough to catch breakfast feeding time this morning! Part 2: No luck with the eagles? Check out this equally awesome OTTER CAM from the Vancouver Aquarium! Hopefully you will catch a glimpse of those little cuties playing in the water. Part 3: The next time you go outside, find a flower. A really beautiful one. I've seen cherry blossoms, tulips, magnolias, dogwoods, and so many more out right now. Put your nose up to it and smell. Did you get lucky and find a nice smelling one? Take a deep breath and think about how truly amazing our world is, and how lucky we are to live in such a tree and flower filled part of it. I've seen so many sweet little messages of hope and love in windows and on sidewalks. If you haven't done one yet, my first challenge is for you to make one! A little paper heart with a kind word can go a long way. I decided to do a different kind of message in my window. If you look veeeeery closely, can you see it? If you see my two teddies waving to you, good work!
