Recently, my parents came across a short story. Not just any short story. It was, we believe, the first story I ever wrote. So here, for your viewing pleasure, is a veeeeery interesting story about an alligator. Pretty good for a first try, wouldn't you say? If you have written a story that you like, I challenge you to tuck it away somewhere special so that you can read it when you are much, much older. And of course, three fun facts about our author this week: 1. She recently became the driver of a very special library train (this amazing train courtesy of the students in Div. 4!) 2. She has a naughty little black cat named Bosco who is best known for the time he snuck into the fridge and ate an entire pie. 3. She has been known to read anywhere and everywhere - at beaches, parks, walking down sidewalks (which sometimes causes her to trip!), in cars, on paddleboards - you name it, she's read there!

Where do I start with Ms. Rowling? You know her as the author of Harry Potter. She is that, and more! She, in fact, has just come out with a new book. It has nothing to do with the wizarding world, but is instead about, well, an Ickabog. What is an Ickabog, you ask? Guess you will have to read and find out! She posts a chapter a week. I read the first chapter and it was quite short and made me quite hungry (you'll see). And, much like the Harry Potter readings, she is holding a worldwide contest for illustrations. How amazingly amazing would it be to have one of YOUR illustrations in a JK Rowling book!? The book comes out in November so you've got a little time to get your creative juices flowing. For now, check out the website, or enjoy the first chapter and start those artistic wheels a turnin! Oh, and, of course, here are three interesting facts about JK:
This author is more of a photographer, but he has many books published. They are all about his sweet little border collie, Momo! I know many of you signed out one of the two Find Momo books before Spring Break. Finding a dog in a picture sounds easy, but don't be fooled! Momo is one sneaky little pup. Andrew travels the world taking pictures of his dog (lucky guy!). If you want to test your skills, below are a few pictures of Momo in Canada, from Andrew's book, Find Momo Coast to Coast (Andrew is Canadian!). Click on the pictures below to make them bigger and to see where the photo was taken. Let me know in the comments how many Momos you can find! If you are hungry for more Momo, check out this super cool website. There is a whole Find Momo section and you can even click the picture to see if you are right or not.
And of course, lets finish with three fun facts about Andrew/Momo: 1. Andrew is an author, a photographer, and also a painter - but paintings aren't on pieces of paper - he paints murals on buildings 2. He also makes Momo puzzles, magnets, and stuffies! 3. Starbucks once asked him to take pictures that showed off the frappuccino! Some of you might know this amazing author. She is local. In fact, she goes to Eastview! That's right, Lily is in grade 4 and has written many books. One of her most popular books, titled Dreams, is available to sign out at our Eastview Library (or at least will be when we get back to school). Dreams is about a girl named Olivea, who keeps having nightmares. The nightmares keep getting worse and worse until she gets stuck in one! It is an exciting adventure from start to finish! Lily is one of many, many authors that go to Eastview. In fact, when school opens up, don't forget to check out the Eastview Authors basket in the library for more amazing stories by authors you go to school with! And now for 3 fun facts about Miss Lily Johnston: 1. Lily has two very cool little brothers and two very cute little guinea pigs 2. Lily is an amazing artist and loves to draw 3. Lily loves to read! I have often found her with her nose in a book Oh and speaking of noses in books... here's a picture of Lily: Let's start things off with a bang. Our ever favourite author, Mo Willems, has been doing some hilarious and educational drawing lessons every day. He is finished creating new ones, but you can access all of his old ones RIGHT HERE! Here's EPISODE 1 - and my attempt at following along and drawing our good friend The Pigeon! And now for 3 fun facts about MO:
1. Mo used to work for Sesame Street 2. As a kid, Mo loved Snoopy and Charlie Brown so much that he wrote a letter to the author (Charles Schulz) asking for his job when he died 3. He once took a year long trip around the world and drew a new comic every single day Mo Willems is one of my favourite authors (I know what you are all saying right now... I always say that!) but this time it's really true (I know... I always say that too!). But really. He's funny, kind, smart, and isn't afraid to try something new (even if it fails). He was written over 50 books - and I bet most of you have read at least 10! Learn some mo' and play some mo' games here, here, and here! |
